Here’s a rundown of what I’ve been up to:
Meetings, meetings, and more meetings with our fabulous web team, Shad and Ari, for the upcoming launch of our official website for Lost in Sunshine. We are looking at going “live” by the end of October now.
And here’s a distinction: it’s not just a site for a movie, we’re putting on a show during the lifespan of our project.
I’ve been inspired by the websites of Franny Armstrong’s The Age of Stupid, as well as Zefrank’s The Show. Since we’re planning to engage our target audience (and test our assumptions about them) from the get-go, we’ve been planning how to develop a relationship with our web visitors (and hopefully, fans). We’ll have blogs, behind-the-scenes updates/videos, and new entertainment content added weekly, if not more often. We’ll eventually expand the site to accommodate more feedback and participation from fans via possibly a forum and/or a wiki. And, we can envision fun contests for fans to add content, themselves. I’m really psyched for it all to come together!
Trip to Los Angeles in late August. Had a couple productive meetings with folks who are very enthused about our pitch, script, and business plan. We’re now looking at how to move forward with them. Also had a couple LA “no’s:” the folks who say “no” by not saying “no,” but not saying “yes.” Which is to be expected.
Soliciting and following up on interest from prospective equity investors. Learned that something I thought I had submitted in late June (to an angel group) did not, in fact, go through – ack! But, the mixup gave me the chance to polish my written submission more before sending it off again (this time successfully). I am sharing this bit of fundraising minutia with you because,
When you experience a setback, take the good from it that you can, and move forward again.
I also heard positive noises last week from another potential funding group in California – yay! – and hope to be flying out there within the month to pitch to them.
How do I pay for these trips, you ask? Credit cards, and asking local friends or family, when possible, if I may sleep on their couches.
I’ve also been researching and beginning to contact more prospective investors and/or sponsors who might really embrace LIS’ theme of self-discovery: holistic authors, publishers, organizations, groups and more.
Ramping up prep work for our December exteriors shoot in Texas.
Arranging more legal ducks with our production counsel in Texas and my production company counsel here in Minnesota.
Script/development meetings with a couple MN-based writers with whom I’ve begun to work. Both are genre scripts: an adventure movie, and a sci-fi movie.
And, finishing the basic content layout and input of this website!
Phew.
Thanks for reading. Now get back to making your movie.
